Gaylord MI Visitor's Center
Gaylord bills itself as Michigan's Alpine Village, a sister city to Pontresina, Switzerland, with Swiss-themed architecture lining its Otsego County downtown. The area is a self-styled Golf Mecca, with more than 20 championship courses within a short drive, and one of the state's largest free-roaming elk herds, viewable up close at Elk Park — especially during the fall bugling season. Otsego Lake State Park, miles of free trails, and the Call of the Wild Museum add to the draw, capped by July's Alpenfest.
